Hi everyone,
Well, I'm back in Boston! Can you believe it? My time in Italy is over... but I am so happy to be here with my friends in Boston. In some ways, I feel like I've been able to snap right back into where I was before. Anyway, for some closure, I've decided to write this one last post.
On Sunday, after saying goodbye to some of our Israeli and German friends, as well as the other Americans, I took a water taxi with Dejan, Jenn and Lauren Wolahan. This would be a faster option than the vaporetto, but unfortunately there was a boating competition that was taking place on Sunday, so the canal grande was closed and we had to stop at Piazzale Roma! We hauled our luggage across the pavement and took a bus to the airport, Marco Polo that is.
Stella, again one of my Italian friends, had told me before that she would be at the airport on Sunday to pick up the BC students who would be doing the VIU program this summer. She wasn't too excited about it since it would involve waiting at the airport from 9 until 3pm. However, we agreed that we would see each other before I left. So Jenn, Dejan, Lauren and I arrived and checked in at the airport... and then I went downstairs to the arrivals to look for Stella. But I couldn't find her wherever I looked! I went back upstairs, thinking I had missed her, when all of a sudden I saw her, talking with Jenn and Lauren... so we were able to talk for a little bit before saying goodbye... well, arrivederci, not goodbye.
I don't really want to talk about my flights to London Heathrow and then (a brutal four hours later) to Boston. But I was so excited when I came out of the doors after going through US Customs and seeing Vittoria waiting for me! This whole past week, I've felt ready to go home I think, just because I knew we were close to the end of the program. And reuniting with my friends Dan, Matt, Will, Brian, Rob and Amy has been really special. And... though some of my co-BC students from VIU may think I'm out of my mind, I went to the North End last night with Vittoria to celebrate a whole lot of things... my return, her birthday, the end of the school year and the start of the real summer here in Boston. We walked through Quincy Market past Faneuil Hall last night, and there were people in this bar that we saw, drinking Sam Adams, and there was a guitarist playing music on the stage, and baseball on TV... at that point I really thought, ''I'm back in Boston.'' Of course, then we went to the North End, haha.
I'm actually working this week at Video Services. That's really no problem though. I've been working today since 11:30, and business has been pretty steady despite the number of clients. I just finished hooking up a massive tape-to-DVD project in the dub room. It should be done before five, that's when I finish.
Yeah... I can't really say I'm having too much ''culture shock,'' as they say. But maybe that's because I kept a lot of Italy with me. Yesterday I wore some of the clothes I got in Italy and Vittoria was particularly impressed... ''You look really European,'' she said. But today I ran into another one of my friends, Amy, and I am dressed ''all'Americana'' today, I told her.
I've also finished moving into my new room on 24 Crosby Road. It is the sun room, so on the corner in the front with a view of the street. There are a lot of windows but it's a fairly large space that I have all to myself. And my housemates were nice enough to move all my furniture in for me! So I spent all yesterday decorating... of course, my Italian and my Sicily flags (which I had before), maps and pictures from my time in Italy as well. That's not to say I didn't put up my BC Hockey poster.
So really, that's all. I hope you all have had a great few months, and I really thank you for reading and keeping up with my travels. If you've had an ounce of the fun I've had during my semester through reading what I've written, then I consider my blog-keeping a success. Take care everyone! Arrivederci!
Grazie di tutto,
Andrew
